Don’t regret what you’ve done, regret what you haven’t done
If you don’t have a plan for your life, it will get planned for you.
It doesn’t matter how old you are, what matters is what you can do and what you want to do. Don’t know what you want to do? Really? Well we’ll see about that.
I’ve got a little quiz;
- What things do you google most?
- What kind of books do you buy most
- If you watch YouTube what were the last videos you watched
Well? I don’t know where I got this from but this was me;
- Motorcycles, fitness, self development, football
- Self development, fitness
- Motorcycles, Fitness, self development, football.
Didn’t realise how fixated I was with bikes but there you go. So here I am, writing about motorcycles, fitness and self development for people in retirement. Like me. And you. So now what?
Well, unless the answers to all the questions was pornography, you’ve found your “what” to take forward into retirement. And that includes “work”, if that’s what you want to do or maybe that’s what you need to do.
Someone once said something like “If you’re being paid to do something you love, you’ll never work a day in your life”. I’ve been lucky, my career choice was just that and I can honestly say that out of every ten days I worked, I enjoyed eight of them. Even in retirement when I chose to work in the fitness industry, I felt the same.
Warning. When I first retired I thought “I think I’ll be a businessman, make loads of money and retire again” I had my own business for a time. I didn’t love it. I was a business consultant apparently. Even now I couldn’t tell you what I did. Needless to say I didn’t make “loads of money”, some, but a lot less than “loads”. It was hard work, really hard work. I’d never worked hard before, not like this anyway. I didn’t love what I was doing, I wasn’t very good at it and because I was retired I wasn’t motivated to keep on doing it. So I didn’t. My point is, if you’re motivation for doing the job you did was to fund your younger life, family, bills, mortgage etc, well done you but now it’s time for you hopefully.
Live your life now, before you get given a life making sure someone else lives their life…
