strength training over 50?

Because if you don’t use it you lose it. If you haven’t already. Good news is, it’s not over till it’s over.

“I hate getting old, look at all this saggy skin on my arms and knees, my days of strappy tops and short shorts are long gone.” I hear men saying this every day to their wives, husbands, partners..

OK. Lesson. See all that saggy, wrinkly skin on your arms, knees, thighs etc? Well it looks like that because it’s empty, not old. Thirty years ago that skin would have been filled with muscle. Truth. You were using those arms and legs to walk, run, work, carry kids, swim, play sports, lift weights, dance, build stuff and countless other things. But now you don’t. Because? Because you can’t? Because you’re old? Because you’re retired and taking it easy?

AGEING IS THE AGGRESSIVE PURSUIT OF COMFORT. Let me say that again;

AGEING IS THE AGGRESSIVE PURSUIT OF COMFORT…

Inside those wrinkly skin sacks are the same muscles you had when you were in your 20s, they’re just smaller. Why? Because you don’t need them to be any bigger. The human body is the greatest machine ever made. It will literally adapt and change to whatever you need it to be. You just need to ask. Nicely.

Example.

Your arms currently look like this;

..But you want them to look like this..

So you do this…

And you end up…

Start small…

Stay consistent…

And ask for help. I’ve trained with weights since I was 16 years old ( ouch, that was 1978!) and things have moved on. We know a lot more about how the body works these days and I’ve been a trainer since 2015 so I know how it used to be and how it is now. If I were returning to training after a long lay off I would get some good advice from a PT, get them to either train you or give you program to follow, just to re introduce you to the right exercises again. Feel free to ask my advice by the way, no charge. I may start training people again in person or online but at the moment I’m working on developing that squashy thing berween my ears first by conquering the internet.

Me on the internet/blogging is similar to you guys getting fitter and healthier; I think I’m better than I am and keep trying to run before I can walk. I’ve given myself the same advice I give to you;

THE THOUSAND MILE JOURNEY BEGINS WITH THE FIRST STEP

All the best
