Start fitness

It’s never too late

In fact it’s a matter of life and death.

So look, exercise doesn’t just apply to older people, it’s a medicine for EVERYONE

Feel fat, overweight, don’t like how you look…EXERCISE

Clothes feel tight…EXERCISE

Feeling down…EXERCISE

Aching joints…EXERCISE

You get out of breath easily…EXERCISE

Can’t stand gyms…EXERCISE

There’s a pattern here don’t you think?

I haven’t exercised this week at all. I got some kind of bug, felt like crap, went to bed for two days, felt better and here I am. I now feel like crap because I haven’t exercised.

Start Fitness. Get up. Walk round the block, up and down your road, to the shops, to buy wine (joking not joking). Point is, you have STARTED FITNESS.

“The thousand mile journey begins with the first step” said…no one, what they actually said was;

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu.

Anyway starting fitness is easy, but hard too, You go for that little walk. Nothing happened. Well it did actually, you moved, got some fresh air, some sun. Your joints moved. You burned some calories, not so many as to wipe out the calories in that glass of wine but maybe the first sip was free! Oh, and your mental health has improved because you’ve achieved something good. Under no circumstances must you go out on Day One, walk until you drop, feet blistered and collapse on the settee. We all do that. It doesn’t work. What works is doing something tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that. So go easy on yourself, go very easy on yourself.

During the pandemic, I was a COVID rehab specialist. My clients had all suffered COVID and were now coping with the after effects. One woman, a doctor, pre COVID had been a real outdoor type, hill walking, hiking the lot. When I met her she couldn’t walk upstairs without becoming exhausted. And crying. She was a doctor and as such knew that there was no effective cure. The program I was part of was the only thing out there so she’d signed up to it. I’d had another doctor on the program who was conceited and thought he knew it all. But more about him later. Back to this doctor. She assured me that she would exactly what I said, without question. And she did. Lesson 1. Walk out of your drive to the first lamp post and back again. Heart rate elevated? Yes, a bit. Any discomfort? No I could’ve done more. Perfect. And that was the first step for her. Glad to say she regained full fitness and is back climbing mountains again. And my point is?

A little every day is better than a massive effort followed by nothing…Always

So here’s a challenge for you;

The 30 day “forget walking 10,000 steps a day challenge”. Just walk every day for 30 days
