Because you do still have one.
I wish someone had told me to do this 12 years ago. Well I don't actually because it's not what I do, however, in passing on my story in the hope of helping others: This is a Good Thing to Do.
You can of course er...like this "friend" of mine, buy the car of your dreams, the motorbike of your dreams, holidays, big nights out,run around like a spoiled overpaid footballer getting into all kinds of trouble. Money soon runs out, as does loved ones patience. My "friend" realised this just in time.
You could also buy a nicer car, go on a nice holiday, put your money in the bank then go and look for a little job to top up your pension
You could retire, get your pension, change cars have the holiday then...start back doing the same job for less pay.
You could make your money work for you, find a new direction and go your own way at your own speed.
So what I'm saying is don't rush. But do take time out to consciously think about what you really want to do from here on in..
Get some advice on it. Now here's a problem. Google "retirement" or "middle aged" or "senior" or anything relating to older people? It ain't good. Give your pension to us and save up for your care home, take it easy, go on a holiday with old people, mid life crisis.
I didn't think, but I did do lots of things that I wanted to do so I've no regrets.
"NEVER REGRET WHAT YOU'VE DONE, REGRET WHAT YOU HAVEN'T DONE"
So "the vision" is that we learn from people like us and push the boundaries of what's possible at this time in our lives. I'm one voice, let's have more.
Anecdote. We've got these but we need to learn from them. My friend passed in his 50's. He had lived the life we are supposed to live, worked hard, carved out a career to be proud of, raised a family to be proud of, had a circle of good friends, finances all in good shape and was looking forward to his retirement, again which he had planned meticulously. Retired. The big C got him. Tomorrow never comes.
I need a To Do list these days or I'll sit watching rubbish on telly;
Woke up at 0800
Airpods in. Listened to some tunes
Out of bed, moved my fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, back, hips, knees,ankles
Did some deep squats and press ups
Had a cold shower
All the above took about 20 mins but it has improved my fitness and health, THE MOST MOST IMPORTANT PART OF RETIREMENT. Then;
Sent a tweet
Read "Show Your Work by Austin Kleon
Wrote this blog......because I figure what I have to say might be of use to someone out there and also because I'm learning new skills too
